Catherine Bammert, Ph.D., CT, MB(ASCP)CM

Cathy earned a bachelor’s degree in Cytotechnology from Northern Michigan University (Marquette, MI) and a Certificate in Cytotechnology from the Marshfield Clinic School of Cytotechnology (Marshfield, WI).   She enjoyed an extensive career in the clinical laboratory and served as a cytologist and Manager of Anatomic Pathology.  Cathy earned a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Michigan Technological University (Houghton, MI) and holds a master’s degree in Training and Performance Improvement from Northern Michigan University.

Cathy is passionate about the field of cytology, teaching the next generation of cytologists, and clinical research.  She is currently an Assistant Professor and the Program Director for the Cytotechnology Program in the School of Health Professions at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Prior to this, Dr. Bammert was the Program Director for the Diagnostic Genetics Program and was an Associate, tenured Professor in the School of Clinical Sciences at Northern Michigan University.

Cathy is an active member on several national professional societies and committees, including the American Society of Cytopathology Case Study Committee, American Society of Cytopathology Research and Current Concepts Committee, American Society of Cytopathology Telecytology Ad Hoc Committee and is the chair of the American Society for Cytotechnology Education Committee.  In her free time, Cathy enjoys cooking, going for walks with her dog and spending time with her family.
