Catherine Smith, M.Ed., CT (ASCP)

Catherine Smith is past president for the American Society for Cytotechnology (ASCT). She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville in 2004 and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Cytotechnology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 2006. She has worked in the field for 8 years beginning her career as a Cytotechnologist working for The Lab of Path, PA in Searcy, Arkansas and the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 2013, she completed a M.Ed. in Adult Education and considers herself an advocate for cytology education and feels strongly about the responsibility of a cytotechnologist to exemplify the “lifelong learning” attitude. She has served as faculty for the cytotechnology program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences since 2008 and has held the position of education coordinator since 2010.

Catherine Smith has also served as the Education Committee chair (2012-2014) for the ASCT. She is an active member of the American Society of Cytopathology, American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the ASCT.
